Fast and Furious 9 and 10 cast, plot, cars, release date and everything you need to know!!
Who’s facing off against the family now?
Anyone who thought Fast & Furious 7’s billion-surpassing success was a fluke were resoundly mistaken when its follow-up The Fate of the Furious also hit the mighty ‘B’ milestone earlier this year.
A ninth movie is definitely on the way, but what do we know so far about Vin Diesel’s latest instalment of the world’s most popular pure action franchise?
Fast & Furious 9 release date: When is it coming out?
Originally slated for April 2019 the currently untitled ninth film was recently pushed back a full year and will now be released worldwide on April 20, 2019, which frankly feels like forever away right now.
Not only that, but a 10th (and currently, final) movie will follow on April 2, 2021.
Fast & Furious 9 cast: Who’s coming back?
There hasn’t been any confirmation as to who is returning to the franchise, but it’s safe to assume that at least Vin Diesel (Dom), Michelle Rodriguez (Letty), Tyrese Gibson (Roman), and Chris Bridges (Tej) will be back.
Dwayne Johnson’s future is up in the air, following his rumoured on-set spat with Diesel during the filming of the last movie, while his character appeared to have “retired” at the end of the film. But more on that in a moment.
There’s also the chance of returns for Jason Statham (Deckard), Helen Mirren (Magdalene), Luke Evans (Owen), Lucas Black (Sean), Nathalie Emmanuel (Ramsey), Kurt Russell (Mr Nobody) and Scott Eastwood (Eric). Charlize Theron (Cipher) isn’t sure about her future in the franchise, but it sounds like she’s up for more.
Is Michelle Rodriguez returning?
Will there be a Hobbs/Shaw spinoff?
There’s a chance that Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Shaw won’t be returning for the ninth movie. But that’s only because they might get their own spin-off after stealing the show last time around. Plus, Vin and Dwayne can’t seem to stand each other these days.
Johnson teased “the greatest fight in the history of movies” between him Statham, with both said to be reuniting with screenwriter Chris Morgan for a spin-off while Universal works on ideas for the series’ next official sequel. However, none of this has been officially confirmed yet.
In an Instagram post, Dwayne thanked fans of the franchise for supporting its latest instalment, as well as the cast and crew – including “a very very special shout out” to Jason.
“And finally, a very very special shout out to a certain bald headed, English tea drinkin’, crumpets eatin’, ‘God Save The Queen’ singin’ suuuuuum bitch, Jason Statham,” he wrote.
“One fine day, we will give the audience what they want and fight. And it will be the greatest fight in the history of movies. We will then drink like brothers as you nurse your wounds, because I’m gonna knock your teeth so far down your throat, you’re gonna have to stick a toothbrush up your ass to brush ’em. Thanks for trusting me brotha and cheers to always having fun for audience.”
In July 2017, Dwayne reaffirmed the plans, posting that he is currently “Cookin’ up some cool/fun stuff for Hobbs & Shaw. Stay tuned.”
Who will direct and write?
There has yet to be any official confirmation as to who will take control of the next movie. Our money is on Chris Morgan to return for his seventh movie as scriptwriter.
F Gary Gray directed 8, but he has yet to reveal whether he will return for a second instalment.
Could Han return?
Technically, Sung Kang’s Han has been dead since Tokyo Drift, and we’ve sadly not seen him since 6’s conclusion. But could he make a sensational return from the dead?
We found it a bit off that everyone seemed to forget that Deckard KILLED Han, and yet here he was enjoying a BBQ with zero mention of their fallen comrade by the end of 8. But is there a reason for this?
In a recent interview for Cinema Blend, writer Chris Morgan teased: “Justice for Han. I think you’ll learn a lot more about it, and I don’t know if that hashtag will be the appropriate one to put on it down the road. But I can tell you this: We will definitely be talking more about Han.”
Jason Statham also gave his view, saying: “That whole episode has not fully detailed exactly what happened. I’m not going to say anything more than that! But [Chris Morgan] likes to annoy the fans and please the fans and get all these angry protests. So, more to come.”
Dame Helen Mirren has revealed she wants to return to the Fast and Furious franchise… on one condition.
The acting legend revealed she would be well up for reprising her role as Magdelene Shaw in the high-intensity action franchise, just so long as she’s allowed to drive this time.
“I’d love to come back. But, guys, I want to drive next time,” Mirren told Entertainment Weekly.
During the interview, she also explained how and why she felt her role added a little something to the blockbuster franchise.
“They very kindly wrote me in and that was really sweet of them and I love those guys, they’re fantastic,” she added.
“I think [the idea of family is] one of the reasons they’re popular films, because that is the one element that everybody all over the world can identify with simply, easily, and directly, so it’s great to see this other level being brought in with the different generations of the family, the fact that family actually goes on through many generations over long periods of time.
“I thought that that was a nice thing to introduce into the storyline.”
Could the movie head into space?
Don’t be so silly. But yeah, maybe.
Fast & Furious 8 director F Gary Gray was asked about the possibility of that happening.
“Outer space? Listen, I wouldn’t rule anything out with this franchise,” he told ScreenRant. “When I read ‘submarine’ [in Fast & Furious 8], I’m like, ‘OK, anything’s possible’.
“You never know. I haven’t read ‘Dom on Mars’ yet, but again, you just never
know.”
